In this episode of the Financial Opportunities Forum, Mr. Nirmal Bari and Mr. Akshay Falgunia discuss the fundamental features of an International Financial Centre (IFC). They briefly cover the factors that differentiate successful IFCs from those that have struggled, and examine the current position of GIFT IFSC against these parameters. The discussion also highlights the investment options that existed before the establishment of GIFT IFSC for both foreign and NRI investors looking to invest in India (inbound investments) and Indian resident investors seeking opportunities outside India (outbound investments). While such options were available, many were complex, subject to restrictions, and lacked cost and tax efficiency. GIFT IFSC addresses many of these challenges. Further, the episode explores the various investment structures available within GIFT IFSC and discusses their suitability based on the different types and requirements of investors.
