Financial Opportunities Forum (October 2014) Presentation by Rajeev Thakkar.
The topic was on Google and why it has the widest moat unlike other technology companies. The arguments were in favor of why Google is compelling business to own rather than shun technology.
The points that surfaced from the presentation were lucid.
a) Google has built an eco-system and it percolates in majority of individuals today in the globalized world.
b) Various services offered by Google are not replaceable by competitors. The search engine is in multiple countries and languages. The search engine is constantly upgraded.
c) Google thinks of paradigm shifts rather than small changes. Fore example internet across the globe, accessible via the balloons.
Charlie Munger who was a Google sceptic has admitted that Google has the widest moat today. With the world moving towards the mobile applications, Google has an enviable presence in the software and application world.
Therefore, Google is a compelling business to own and is ahead of most conceivable competitors.
